Art Village

Near Karjat, Maharashtra

Nestled in the serene hills of Karjat on the outskirts of Mumbai, The Art Village is a low-carbon footprint project designed to celebrate sustainable living and creative collaboration. Conceptualized and brought to life under the vision of Ganga Kadakia and Kunal Kadakia, the Art Village serves as a dynamic space where artists, thinkers, and creators converge to share and learn.

This artist-led collaborative space welcomes Fine and Performing Artists, Musicians, Theatre Personalities, Philosophers, Yogis, Architects, Farmers, and Astronomers from across the globe. Through workshops, festivals, performances, and talks, it fosters an exchange of diverse practices while embracing sustainable design and mindful living.

Designed by Studio Dot, the architecture of Art Village reflects its ethos of environmental harmony. Studio Dot employed earth-friendly materials, local craftsmanship, and traditional wisdom to create structures that are in tune with the surrounding landscape, promoting a low-impact, high-resilience built environment.

Multi-disciplinary artist and founder member Ganga Kadakia shares her personal journey through a unique lens, capturing India’s rich biodiversity in a functional art calendar. India, a mega-diverse country, with just 2.4% of the world’s land area, accounts for an impressive 7-8% of recorded species of plants and animals. This project, much like the calendar, reminds us of the beauty and significance of preserving our environment while celebrating creativity.

The Art Village is a true testament to the power of collaborative vision, sustainable practices, and artistic expression. It stands as a beacon of inspiration for creators and visitors alike, encouraging them to engage with nature, art, and ideas in profound ways.

We hope you interact with this thoughtful and functional piece of art with as much joy as we found in designing and creating it.
